Marielle F. Hazen, Esq., CELA
Marielle F. Hazen, Attorney at Law, is the founder of Hazen Elder Law, a firm dedicated to the practice of elder and disability law, estate planning, tax planning and estate administration. Ms. Hazen is committed to protecting the rights and serving the legal needs of older adults, individuals with disabilities and their families. She has earned the distinction of being a Certified Elder Law Attorney by the National Elder Law Foundation, as authorized by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. She is the Immediate Past President and one of the founding members of the Pennsylvania Association of Elder Law Attorneys (PAELA), and is a Past Chair of the Elder Law Section of the Pennsylvania Bar Association. Ms. Hazen is Secretary of the Board of Directors of the Special Needs Alliance, a national nonprofit organization of attorneys dedicated to Disability and Public Benefits Law, and participates on the Grassroots Advocacy Committee of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA). She is actively involved in the legislative advocacy activities of PAELA, the PBA Elder Law Section, the Special Needs Alliance and NAELA, and through these organizations advocates on issues impacting her clients. She is a member of the Pennsylvania, Dauphin County and Cumberland County Bar Associations, is admitted to practice before the PA Supreme Court and the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, and is accredited by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the preparation, presentation, and prosecution of claims for veterans’ benefits before the Veterans Administration.
Ms. Hazen serves on the Elder Abuse Task Force for Dauphin County. At the request of the Pennsylvania Department of Aging, Ms. Hazen has taught the Apprise Coordinators regarding long term care legal issues and was appointed as a Delegate to Pennsylvania’s Quality at End of Life Symposium. She frequently serves on the faculty for the Pennsylvania Bar Institute, providing continuing legal education for attorneys. She has also been a guest lecturer for the Temple University graduate program in Social Work, the Penn State graduate program in Public Health Administration, the Penn State Dickinson School of Law, the Widener University School of Law, the Harrisburg Area Community College and ALI/ABA. Ms. Hazen is also frequently invited to give presentations to community groups about estate planning and elder law topics.
In 2010, Ms Hazen was presented with the Excellence in Elder Law Award from the Elder Law Section of the Pennsylvania Bar Association. This award was given in recognition and appreciation of her superior professional efforts in the field of elder law, her significant contributions to the legal profession and her noteworthy service to the elderly. In 2009, Ms. Hazen received an Outstanding Achievement award from the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys.
Ms. Hazen has been selected by her peers as a “Super Lawyer” in the field of Elder Law and as one of the Top 50 Women Lawyers in Pennsylvania, as featured in Law and Politics Magazine. She has also been selected as one of the Best Lawyers in America, and Hazen Elder Law has been recognized by U.S. News and World Report as one of the top law firms in the country. Ms. Hazen has received Martindale-Hubbell’s highest lawyer rating of AV®. An AV Rating is given to those attorneys who have reached the highest standards of professional excellence.
Linda J. Olsen, Esq.
Linda J. Olsen is a graduate of Duquesne University (B.S., summa cum laude, 2001) and The Dickinson School of Law of the Pennsylvania State University (J.D.2004). Prior to joining Hazen Elder Law, Ms. Olsen was an associate with a small Harrisburg law firm practicing in the areas of estate planning, estate administration, administrative law, business planning, and civil litigation. During law school, she served a student internship as a judicial clerk with the Honorable Sylvia H. Rambo, U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania. Ms. Olsen was also named as Public Interest Advocate by The Miller Center for Public Interest Advocacy and worked as a summer associate at MidPenn Legal Services in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.
Ms. Olsen was the recipient of the National Association of Women Lawyers’ award as The Outstanding Woman Law Graduate of Pennsylvania State University, Dickinson School of Law for the year 2004 and the 2004 Montgomery and MacRae Award for academic achievement by a non-traditional student in Administrative Law. She served as an Articles Editor for the Penn State International Law Review and authored a comment entitled, “Live or Let Die: Could Intercountry Adoption Make the Difference?” 22 PENN STATE INT’L L.REV. 483 (Winter 2004). Ms. Olsen was the recipient of CALI Excellence for the Future Awards for academic achievement in Comparative Corporate Law, State and Local Taxation, Property Rights Seminar, and Advanced Pre-Trial Advocacy. She was student coordinator for the law school’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program, which received the American Bar Association’s Best Continuing Site Award for 2004, and was also a member of Dickinson’s Appellate Moot Court Board.
Ms. Olsen is admitted to the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania, the United States District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania, and the United States Supreme Court. She is a member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association and its Gay and Lesbian Rights Committee, and the Dauphin County Bar Association. She is currently serving as a member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association House of Delegates for Zone 3. Ms. Olsen is also a member of The Honorable William W. Lipsitt American Inn of Court.
Ms. Olsen has authored articles and been a lecturer at seminars on estate planning, estate administration and real estate, including: “When All Hope for Recovery is Gone, Whose Decision Will Be Honored?”, VOICE, official publication of the Pennsylvania State Education Association, and on PSEA Website, Summer, 2005; “Preparing for and Attending the Closing”, author and presenter for HalfMoon LLC CLE Presentation, 2005; “Estate Planning Issues for Family Lawyers”, in PBI Publication A Family of Laws for the Family Lawyer, co-author and co-presenter, 2006.
Linda is a strong advocate for diversity and equality and brings real-life experience, beyond the classroom, to every area of her practice of law and representation of clients. As a member of the Hazen Elder Law firm, she will be concentrating her practice in the areas of estate planning and estate administration and representation before the Department of Veterans’ Affairs.
Melissa Kain is a Paralegal and Planning Specialist concentrating in Elder Law, Estate Planning and Special Needs Planning. Melissa provides support to the firm’s attorneys in the Medicaid application and document drafting processes. She works with clients to gather pertinent information essential to their specific plan, prepares documents and keeps clients apprised as to the status of their cases. She has extensive experience in the legal field. She received her Paralegal Associates of Arts Degree from Harrisburg Area Community College and a Bachelor’s Degree from the Pennsylvania State University. She is caring and compassionate and enjoys working with the elderly. She works hard to make the planning process as smooth as possible for clients, and takes pride in client satisfaction. When she isn’t working, she enjoys spending time with her husband and son.
Corinne Eggers Woodhouse
Corinne Eggers Woodhouse is a Paralegal concentrating in Estate and Trust Administration. Corinne has extensive experience handling all aspects of the estate and trust administration process. She enjoys working with families and handles daily interaction with clients in the administration process. She is compassionate and works hard to make the administration process as smooth and stress-free for families as possible. She studied vocal performance and conducting at Moorhead State University in Moorhead, MN and worked in other career fields before she received her paralegal certificate from the Academy of Medical Arts and Business in Harrisburg, PA. She has worked in the legal field for over a decade and is a member of the Central Pennsylvania Paralegal Association. Corinne and her husband have lived in Perry Co. for over 20 years. She enjoys singing, traveling and gardening.
Tiffany J. Mutzabaugh
Tiffany Mutzabaugh is a Legal Assistant supporting all areas of the firm. She provides a wide range of support to our clients, attorneys and paralegals. She has great experience working with clients and families. Tiffany has a Bachelor’s Degree from Millersville University and is attending Harrisburg Area Community College for Paralegal Studies. Before entering the legal field, she spent several years assisting Medicaid recipients with complaints and grievances for behavioral health care. Tiffany takes great joy in helping others and works hard to meet the needs of the clients.
Robert Rosenberger is the Firm Administrator and a Care Planning Specialist. He has vast experience in his field. Prior to joining the firm he spent several years in the rehabilitation field, first as a case manager and then as Executive Director of a rehabilitation hospital. He also spent several years as administrator of an assisted living facility. In addition, he served for several years as President and CEO of the Greater Pennsylvania Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association. His extensive experience in his field is a valuable resource for our clients who need a guide through the maze of the healthcare system. Bob is also responsible for all marketing and financial functions within the firm. Bob obtained his Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Pittsburgh in 1991.
Mylene DePalma is the Office Administrator. She is often referred to as the “Director of First Impressions” for the firm. She handles appointment scheduling and a wide variety of administrative duties. Her enthusiasm for her work is evident every day. She coordinates the arrival of clients to the office and assists them with answering administrative questions relative to the consultations. She enjoys working with our clients and is committed to making their experience with the firm the best it can be. In her spare time she enjoys music, reading, caring for the fish in her pond, cross-stitch, sewing and spending quality time with family and friends. She lives in Harrisburg with her husband, James DePalma.
